Where do the prices come from?

From the BOE, Spain's official gazette. The government sets the maximum price of the 12.5 kg butane cylinder every two months and the natural gas last-resort tariff (TUR) every quarter. As there's no API, bolsillo copies the prices from the BOE and the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, and flags when they need updating.

    What is the TUR?

Spain's regulated natural gas tariff, with prices set by the government. Households using less than 50,000 kWh a year can ask for it from one of the last-resort suppliers. It's usually among the cheapest, but not every company offers it: you have to ask for it specifically.

What does the gas cost include?

The fixed charge, the energy you use, the hydrocarbons excise duty and 21% VAT. It doesn't include meter rental, which depends on your installation. If the government brings back the reduced 10% VAT, you'd pay a bit less.

How does butane compare with gas?

By the price of each kWh of heat. A 12.5 kg cylinder gives about 159 kWh. It's a rough comparison: the efficiency of the heater or boiler and the cost of installing each system also matter.
